As if there weren’t enough RPGs this year, Broken Roads joins the list, promising an adventure that fans of Wasteland and RPGs in general might well enjoy!
Broken Roads, an adventure in post-apocalyptic Australia
Developed by Drop Bear Bytes in collaboration with Versus Evil, Broken Roads is a narrative role-playing game with an isometric camera in which the player experience is driven by exploration, strategic turn-based combat and meaningful philosophical decisions, all in post-apocalyptic Australian environments.
So fans of traditional role-playing games won’t find themselves on hostile playing fields, as Broken Roads contains both genre-specific and new elements. Instead of opting for a class system, the studio chose “almost unlimited” character development options based on four philosophies: Humanist, Utilitarianism, Machiavellianism and Nihilism.
In addition, we find a morality mechanic in the game that allows you to influence dialogues and quest decisions, but also allow yourself to be influenced according to your philosophical orientation.
When it comes to Australia’s post-apocalyptic settings, the development team traveled to cities and towns in the west of the country to make the game as true to the original as possible. The developers who visited the site took photos, videos and recorded numerous sounds. Speaking of which, the atmospheric soundtrack is given a special character by a composition by Tim Sunderland with instruments made up of everyday objects.
Broken Roads will be available on November 14th for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam. If you’d like to get your first opinion on the game, feel free to check out our first impressions.
