The announcement of the partial closure of a ski lift in Bromont, the mountain of experiences, shocked the residents of the Versant des Cantons de la montagne.
From Monday to Thursday the ski lift is no longer operational and only Friday, Saturday and Sunday are available to fans. As of January 8, tenants and owners were surprised by this news, which, according to some of them, “came out of nowhere.”
“They sold us this sector on the ski-in, ski-out aspect and we paid the price for that advantage. We thought that the offer would continue for a longer period of time, but unfortunately this no longer seems to be the case,” explained Ronald Bigras, resident of Versant des Cantons.
He bought his condo primarily because of the possibility of being able to walk to the slopes in just a few minutes. Like many others, he found out about the news through social media.
He's not the only one shocked by this announcement from the mountain. François Albert and Angela Dumont have lived at the foot of the mountain for 17 years. They say they are very surprised by the government's decision.
“You could say we grew up with the mountains. We saw how they cleared the entire area to provide an attractive offer to residents and then reversed their decisions there […]“There is no winner,” Mr. Albert said. His wife added: “It's a shame that these people have to borrow their cars to get to the already full parking spaces.” […]In a way, we are taking a step back in this story.
Given the numerous reactions of the affected population, Marc-André Meunier, sales and marketing manager of Bromont, reiterated to montagne d'experiences that “this decision was taken based on the analysis of the traffic on each slope and with the aim of achieving improvement .” We serve all of our subscribers. We understand the disappointment of residents in the affected area and are therefore meeting with representatives today to find lasting solutions.”
A meeting between the mountain and an emergency committee of local property owners was held late in the afternoon. Many are excited to see what solutions will come to the table.
