Canada’s Brooke M. Henderson appears to have her sights set on the Evian Championship crown after taking the lead with a second straight 64 card on Friday in Evian-les-Bains, France.
Henderson has been great since the beginning of this LPGA Tour tournament. She made seven more shots from par to move past leader Japan’s Ayaka Furue after one day. Even better, the Ontarian now has a three-shot lead over second place.
“It feels good to start a big tournament so well,” the Ontarian told the LPGA website. I feel like it’s been a long time since I experienced such a breakthrough. I’m really looking forward to the weekend after two such good days.”
Henderson finished the second round high with three straight birdies, dropping his cumulative card to -14.
American Nelly Korda is her closest pursuer. An eagle on the final pennant allowed him to play 67 (-4) and post a -11 score.
South Koreans Sei Young Kim (65) and So Yeon Ryu (66) share third place at -9.
Quebec’s Maude-Aimee Leblanc (+4) failed to recover from a dangerous start to the tournament and fell victim to the ax after 71 strokes on Friday.
