Brooke Shields has admitted her fast-paced 1980s romance Blue Lagoon would never be filmed again due to her graphic nudity and violent animal killings during production.
The actress, who starred in the film when she was 14, was spotted with her former co-star Christopher Atkins, 61, on her Now What? podcast, and discussed how she would have to pin her hair over her chest to “cover her breasts” during production.
Brooke, 57, famously starred as Emmeline Lestrange, who was stranded on a desert island with her cousin Richard, and followed the couple as they matured into adults before falling in love and fathering a child.

Due to the film’s open nudity, Brooke insisted it would never be filmed in 2022, saying: “Never again will a film like this be made. It would not be allowed.’
Christopher said: “Animals were injured in the film. We’ve speared fish and all sorts of crazy things. Children run naked along the beach. That is not possible right now.”
Christopher and Brooke continued to discuss working on the film’s nude scenes.

The actor, who was 18 at the time of filming, said: “It was hard to put on my clothes after this movie.
“There were scenes where I was stark naked with you, if you remember, going down the slide and stuff like that. And that was a little bit awkward, but it was kind of fun for me because at that point I was just going to do it. But your reaction was [annoyed sounds].’
Brooke – who had a body double for nude scenes – recalled thinking, ‘Why do I have to watch this? I had never seen one. I won’t start now.”

Brooke and Christopher portrayed teenage cousins Emmeline and Richard Lestrange who find love while living in an isolated tropical paradise after being stranded as children.
“We wore little strips of clothing and my hair was taped to my body to cover the breasts, which were very small anyway,” the Holiday Harmony actress recalled.
“I don’t know what I was trying to hide. Do you remember the bumpy pads? They put these little flesh-colored things on my nipples because they obviously drew the line in this movie.’

Brooke recalled that members of the production “so desperately wanted us to fall in love,” but at the time she “hadn’t even kissed anyone.”
The ‘Attraction to Paris’ actor replied: “That was probably great for the film because that’s what it was all about. You have to admit, the chemistry between us was just incredible.
“There were a lot of great, great moments that happened there, and I think it was a lot of that innocence that came out in the film that made it work even more.”

The theatrical adaptation of Henry De Vere Stacpoole’s 1908 novel received dismal reviews but still grossed $58.8 million at the worldwide box office.
And while Christopher received a Golden Globe Award nomination for New Star of the Year (Actor) for his performance, former child star Shields received a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress.
“The years that followed were just crazy,” and Atkins became an alcoholic until entering rehab in 1986. He continues to attend three AA meetings per week.
