Shields tried to hail a cab from the restaurant, but the unnamed man insisted he hail her one from his hotel.

“I go up to his hotel room and he disappears for a while,” recalls the model.

Shields claims the man eventually reappeared – naked – and sexually assaulted her.

“It was like wrestling,” Shields recalled. “I was afraid I would be suffocated or something, I didn’t know. I was replaying the scene in my head, so I didn’t fight that much… I just froze. I was just like, ‘Stay alive and get out.'”

“I just ruled it out. And God knows I knew how to distance myself from my body. I practiced that,” she said, referring to her ability to distance herself from her body while modeling.

The Suddenly Susan actress told her security chief about the encounter.

“I was furious to hear her story,” Gavin de Becker said in the documentary. “This is my little sister and I wanted her to know she didn’t do anything wrong.”

Shields wasn’t sure if she would share the encounter in the documentary.

“I didn’t know if or when or if I was ever going to bring it up,” she told . “It took me many years of therapy to even talk about it. I definitely worked through it very hard and learned to process it.”

“And I’ve gotten to a point, and we’ve gotten to a point in our society, where we can talk a lot more openly about these things,” she continued. “I had no idea I was going to say that.”

Shields went on to explain why she wanted to talk about it now.

“Where I came from was as a woman, as a mother, as someone who’s lived with guilt for so long and was constantly trying to learn how to deal with it,” she said.

“I wanted to share this story with other men and women who may be struggling or trying to survive this in the hopes that having me share the incident and the story will at least help others process what they are going through. I hope to be that kind of lawyer,” she added.

The two-part documentary, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, will premiere on the Hulu streaming platform at a later date.

The film follows Shields’ entire career and the few controversies that arose while she was acting and modeling at a young age.

There was backlash over Shields’ Calvin Klein jeans campaign, her role as a child prostitute at age 11, and the sex scene she shot at age 16 for Endless Love. In 1981, Shields lost a lawsuit against photographer Garry Gross. He had photographed Shields nude when he was 10 years old and later sold the images.
