Police said the man's wound appeared to be self-inflicted and that a black handgun lay next to his body.

The family discovered the shocking scene after hiring a locksmith to open the door when they didn't hear from any of them.

The dead man has been identified by multiple sources as Jason Jackson, who describes himself as a singer, songwriter and chef.

His brother, Foster Jackson, told NY Daily News that his loved one “had a voice like an angel.”

“He was a good kid and a sweet boy and very popular in the neighborhood,” Foster said.

His childhood friend Jerome told at the scene that he was shocked to hear how Jackson's life ended.

“That's not the Jason I knew.” “I don't know what happened,” he said.

“I have known him all my life, since he was born. He was the most beautiful boy I knew, handsome, funny – his whole family is funny.

“I never thought it would be like this.”

“This is devastating for both families.” My condolences go out first and foremost to the woman’s family. I hope everyone gets the healing they need.

“It's really hard. I wish it never happened, he's a brother to all of us in the neighborhood… it shook up all of Park Slope.”

Jerome, 41, said Jackson lived in the area before it became the desirable neighborhood it is today.

“You know Park Slope as this upscale neighborhood, but for us, these brownstones belong to our families, and it wasn't always what it was today.”

Three homicide detectives arrived around 11:40 a.m. and climbed the stairs to the walk-up apartment where the couple was found.

They only stayed for about half an hour before leaving and did not answer any questions from reporters.
