Unlike the organizers of the other PGA majors, the organizers of the tournament, which begins Thursday at the club in Brookline, Massachusetts, have authorized LIV’s headliners to attend their event. For Koepka it is better to talk about more positive aspects to give good publicity to the Omnium but also to other competitions and the sport as such.
“I’m here at the US Open and ready to play it. I find all this sad. They all put this dark cloud over the tournament,” he told CBS Sports Network, addressing the media at large.
“I’m sick of all these talks and these stories,” he chained, admitting he hadn’t given the idea of playing within the “damn circuit” too much thought. We’re here to perform and you’re still talking about an event that took place last week.
This competition is actually the first event in LIV’s history to be held in London last week. Charl Schwartzel was the individual winner and also helped the Stinger GC win the team tournament.
Funded by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, LIV offers enticing scholarships. Additionally, Schwartzel pocketed $4.75 million for his work weekend. Among the golfers who have chosen to join this organization are Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson. Due to their involvement in LIV, they were suspended indefinitely by the PGA.
