Bruce Dickinson reveals what the repertoire of his solo shows will look like Igor Miranda

Fans' expectations for Bruce Dickinson's new solo tour are enormous. Since 2002, when he briefly toured Europe, the Iron Maiden singer has not ventured onto stages outside of his band apart from his participation in the tribute to the concert for group and orchestra by Jon Lord (Deep Purple).

In an interview with Australian website Noise 11, transcribed by Blabbermouth, the singer spoke about his expectations for the tour. And finally, he talked about the material audiences can expect at the shows.

He began by emphasizing that “The Mandrake Project”, the new album, will be highlighted, but without exaggeration:

“We have seven albums to choose from. I think it would be a cruel and unusual punishment if people had to listen to a new album from start to finish.”

Interestingly, Bruce has already done this with Iron Maiden, who performed “A Matter of Life and Death” in full on their first leg of the promotional tour. At that time, the frontman even tore down a poster from a viewer who had asked for more classics in the setlist.

So you can imagine some of the songs that will be there.

“We will be playing “Tears Of The Dragon” (from the 1994 album “Balls To Picasso”), “Chemical Wedding” (from the 1998 album “The Chemical Wedding”) and “Accident Of Birth” (from “Accident”) play “Of Birth” from 1997). I'll probably limit it to the material I did with Roy (Z, producer and guitarist). It's somehow necessary to set parameters. “Okay, where is our starting point?”. And in fact it will continue from “Balls to Picasso”. I probably won’t include anything “skunkworks.” Not that I hate it, just because we have so many other great songs. I'm sure this won't be the last tour, so we'll have opportunities to do other things. But on the new record there will be three or four.”

The decision also extends to Dickinson's first solo album.

“Roy wasn't in Skunkworks. It was a different band, with a completely different feel. But there are some great songs there. And obviously Janick (Iron Maiden guitarist Gers) was on Tattooed Millionaire, but I won't be doing anything with him on this tour. We may unearth this material in the future. For now I want to focus on the heavier side. And I think people will want to hear stuff from The Chemical Wedding because that was my development record in the '90s.”

“The Mandrake Project,” the album

“The Mandrake Project” releases March 1st. The tracklist includes 10 tracks, including a reworked version of “If Eternity Should Fail” renamed here as “Eternity Has Failed” originally included in Iron Maiden's “The Book of Souls” (2015).

It is Dickinson's first solo work in nearly two decades. The most recent version, Tyranny of Souls, was released in 2005.
