Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with a ‘cruel’ disease.

Bruce Willis has received a ‘cruel’ diagnosis nearly a year after he first announced his battle with aphasia.

The family of the 67-year-old Die Hard star, who retired from acting after his aphasia revelation in March 2022, wrote in a lengthy statement that Willis now has frontotemporal dementia.

“For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and since it can take years to diagnose, FTD is probably much more common than we know,” his family wrote on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration website.

“Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope will change in the years to come. As Bruce’s condition progresses, we hope media attention can focus on shedding light on this disease, which requires much more awareness and research.”

The statement, signed by Willis’ ex-wife Demi Moore, his now-wife Emma Heming and all of his children, also said that if the Whole Nine Yards star could “act” on his situation, he would would. I want to help spread awareness and create “global awareness and connection” with others who also suffer from this “debilitating disease.”

“Bruce has always found joy in life – and has helped everyone he knows do the same. It has meant the world to see that sense of caring radiate back to him and all of us,” the statement concluded.

“We were so moved by the love you all shared for our dear husband, father and friend at this difficult time. Your continued compassion, understanding and respect will allow us to help Bruce live the fullest life possible.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Willis’ initial diagnosis of aphasia indicated that he would have trouble speaking, writing, and understanding language, both verbal and written. Despite his uphill battle, the ‘Armageddon’ star continued to make public appearances with friends and enjoy ‘impromptu’ jam sessions.

Months after Willis was first diagnosed, Heming, 44, shared that she was struggling with “crippling” grief.

“My grief can be debilitating but I’m learning to deal with it,” she wrote on social media.

Sharing the wisdom of Willis’ 31-year-old daughter Scout, the actress wrote, “Grief is the deepest and purest form of love. I hope you find some comfort in that, too.”
