Bruna Griphao Reflects on the Toxic Relationships She’s Lived: ‘It’s Very Easy to Fall Back Into This Hole’

“Big Brother Brasil 23” gave Bruna Griphao, third place finisher in the competition, the boost she needed to break through as a singer.

— Music has always been connected to my life and also my career. I only passed the first test I took (the telenovela “Bela, a feia”) because I sang. When I was in Malhação, my character was a rocker. In “Pride & Passion” I sang on a trip, they liked it and they put a music scene in the telenovela. I’ve always composed, I’ve also taken singing lessons, but it was a hobby because I didn’t think it was possible. She suffered from imposter syndrome says Bruna, 24 years old and 14 years old in her career.

Actress and singer talks new single and life after BBB 23

It’s not as if the Games of Discord inspired verses for the actress’ new artistic side, but the reality show has given her the courage to show herself.

— I wanted to feel freer and braver. Of course, I also thought about the visibility that the program would bring to my career as a singer. My goal in joining “BBB” was that people could get to know me better says the girl who was released from prison three days a month ago.

Reflecting on the image she left viewers with, she is categorical:

— Crazy (laughs)! But also from a real person. I showed my weaknesses with all my mistakes and successes. I think I’ve reached my goal. I paid the price. As a result, there are people who love me and others who hate me.

Months before entering the most guarded home in the country, the carioca linked up with Kamilla Fialho, a businesswoman who helped catapult Anitta and other names onto the funk. The first single “Bandida” was released in February while she was still in custody. The second, “Queimar,” hit the platforms on the 12th when he was back in real life. They are songs with opposite endings in bar and text, as diverse as the blonde’s participation in reality. However, they have one thing in common: they are all autobiographical.

— When I showed Kamilla what I had already written, she encouraged me to record it. It was much larger letters and we polished them. “Queimar,” for example, would be released first because it’s very personal and I took it in a moment of great vulnerability. You can actually hear me cry, says Bruna, who posed on a fire escape and in the middle of the smoke at this rehearsal for Canal Extra, in reference to the song’s name.

The song tells about an abusive relationship. There are verses that suggest physical and psychological aggression occurred (“Not even my fall / made you stop / you saw me burn”):

“It was quite an intense relationship. I suffered all kinds of aggression. The relationship didn’t last that long, but it took a long time to get rid of it. Until I managed to completely detach myself from the person, from everything that had to do with them and from this fear… Any woman who goes through this knows that it is not easy. The process was long and painful. The realization that an end was needed came when I saw that the people who loved me were also suffering. I started noticing the excesses. It’s hard to see at first, but thank God, my friends, family, and therapy, that’s a thing of the past.

In addition to the relationship setback, the psychological help Bruna showed patterns of behavior that she could recognize in situations and in herself to avoid suffering again:

“I’ve had other toxic relationships. Not on the same level. But I began to understand what the signs are, where we need to rethink, what we can’t accept, and how to respect ourselves more. And it also takes time to connect with other people. It’s a daily practice so that situations don’t repeat themselves, as if only the characters change.

The artist’s first weeks at “BBB 23”, for example, were shaped by the equally intense relationship she lived with Gabriel Fop. Tadeu Schmidt even intervened live, saying that the relationship is beyond acceptable limits. The reality show got Bruna waking up those old triggers:

— The program unlocks memories and feelings you didn’t even know you had. And put everything together with the game. I’ve been through hard things and I didn’t know what was happening to me and Gabriel. I didn’t see much out here, but I was shocked. I understood what my family and all the people who love me explained to me. I’ve tried to forgive myself, but also to warn myself that it’s very easy to fall back into this hole.

It’s not the victim’s fault. Which doesn’t mean that this feeling doesn’t float in your head.

— At first I get this feeling, you’re judging yourself, I keep asking myself: “Why me? Why did I allow myself? Then I remember that it is necessary to understand my story, who I am, what got me there, to then shake me, move and then do things differently says Bruna, who after the end of the program with Gabriel: We chatted briefly and amicably. What happened there is gone. He has a life ahead of him and I wish him all the best.

But this episode is far from Bruna’s only regret in Big Brother Brasil 23:

“I should have thought more before I spoke.” Inside we become very fragile and eventually morph into something we didn’t even know was a part of us. I also regret hurting friends and people I care about. Of course I would have said fewer bad words (laughs). I didn’t have to drink that much either. Alcoholic amnesia is not cool.

The actress was also unable to watch the fights on the show. And he guarantees that he has put up with Alface and Cezar Black, for example. Meanwhile, the group meets again and again at parties.

— I tried to understand what happened and talked to those involved. With the boys we had a relationship that was about fighting and solving the problem because there was affection. I felt bad after the last fight with Black because he has a lot of heart. It took an order of magnitude for me to pass the point. “We’ve already spoken,” he says.

Another person he also had a private conversation with was Sarah Aline. She felt offended by Bruna’s lines, which were seen as racist. A video went viral in which the actress makes rhymes comparing the psychologist’s easy game to a banana:

“When I found out about it, it was a shock. I just wanted to explain and apologize because Sarah is someone I love. The video was cropped and taken out of context, I didn’t talk about her. Still, I know my place as a white woman and have tried to understand everything. If she was hurt and a lot of people were offended, I want to apologize. I always had very deep conversations with Sarah, I had the opportunity to be honest and we understood each other.

I come from the drought

Bruna’s “BBB” post wasn’t just about putting out a fire. There was also support for her to ignite the flame of passion for Gabriel Santana. They are always together at parties. And videos in which they seem to be very popular have already gone viral.

The pair were spotted kissing at a party

— In the videos I speak to Gabriel. That was the angle they shot from. We’re very good friends, the program has strengthened our bonds, we talk a lot and he’s become one of the closest people out there. I didn’t kiss you,” she says.

The speech ends almost as a general statement of the Bruel fan club’s grief, bringing together the names of Bruna and Gabriel Santana, who were anticipating the couple’s appearance. But if the actress didn’t kiss the ex “Chiquititas,” according to the actress, she reveals she’s already weathered the postpartum drought.

— I kissed my dog’s mouth (laughs). Just kidding, I’ve already given you a few kisses after leaving the house, yes enjoy.

The Pisces woman only prefers to keep the name of the person she has chosen secret.

— I was never someone who wanted to reveal my private life, I was always discreet. I think the only relationship that got the most media attention was my first boyfriend, but that never bothered me. Now, when I went to BBB, I already fully exposed myself. When they publish something, I’m calm, because when it comes to love, that’s fine says Bruna, who had an affair with Gabriel Medina in 2019 and has had other stories published, such as those with actors João Zóli and João Guilherme.

Would that part of life come closest to what she sings in the verses of “Bandida”?

— I’ve already had the “burn” phase and the “bandit” phase. I prefer the latter, which is much happier. It happens when I’m confident. I think that makes everyone more of a bandit he replies.

change of habits

The former child actress has been a hit since joining the cast of Avenida Brasil at the age of 13, and guarantees she never felt the pressure of growing up in front of the public.

I was never very famous, a big star, because I couldn’t walk in the street. It allowed me to lead a normal life. At the same time, I feel like I grew up early and had a lot of responsibilities. And he knew he had a double life. I had friends from school and friends from work. Sometimes I couldn’t do something because I had to work, but I’ve always enjoyed it, it’s always brought me great fulfillment. When I look back on my career I’ve done so much and it feels like I’ve lived thousands of years celebrates the artist.

In that regard, the BBB 23 experience, while shorter, put much more pressure on her. Even habits have changed. Cigarettes, for example… In the house she began to smoke to a degree that worried the family. She was a vegetarian and was actually eating meat again. And the sixpack, which even made his personal trainer famous here, is gone.

— Well, I don’t smoke cigarettes in my life. i smoke tobacco Out here I worked out every day, indoors I never even set foot in the gym, I didn’t feel like it. I’ve always been addicted to creams, a thousand moisturizers, I’ve hardly touched one. The other day I was explaining to my friends how the head works there and an adrenaline rush came. It’s a cool, dynamic game, but it puts us under pressure, makes us vulnerable, you’re dealing with people and feelings Bruna analyzes.

Coming back to real life was the moment of recovery:

— I still eat meat, but would like to stop eating red meat, for example. Only at “BBB” the food is regulated, so you can’t choose too much. And with the physical exercises I’m coming back little by little. Still slow as I work a lot and without strength. But it’s something I like, it makes me feel good and I try to improve little by little later on.

End of conversation, time for pictures. With her 1.56 m height, Bruna embodies the tall woman in the poses and soon bursts out laughing:

— I like this alter ego, serious and mysterious, but everyone has already recognized that I’m a bagaceira.

They are the deconstructions of the “BBB”. And she got what she wanted:

— Today I feel like a much braver and freer woman.
