The carioca singer’s plane tickets Bruno Camurati41 years old, already bought to disembark and perform in Fortaleza Hallelujah, on July 23. His show, however, was cancelled Days after he came out as gay in a social media post.
On June 10th, the month marked by LGBTI+ prideBruno expressed his “proud being” in the lyrics and affirmed that the songs he sings and composes about God are possible because he “is exactly who he is”.
Some may cancel today, others celebrate. So I let myself out, hand in hand with the Holy Spirit. And you heard, touched you. You may have found God through a gay person. Do you mind?

singer and composer
However, days after the release, the singer received a contact from the organization of Halleluya telling him that his show would no longer be happening. “Has been singing at the festival for 10 years. They canceled about 3 weeks ago but didn’t share the exact reason,” the singer said in an interview with Diário do Nordeste.

Bruno emphasizes that there was “no official statement” from the festival about a connection between the cancellation and his posting, but “everything points to it, given the time that passed between one and the other”. Concerts by the singer in other cities were also canceled.
I understand why they make that choice, it has a lot to do with how they view sin. But I’m sad because the work I’ve been building for a long time is being devalued and the only thing I can see now is my sexuality.
The report contacted the press office of the Hallelujahto find out why the show was cancelled, if other attractions were also canceled or if there were any relationship to sexuality by Bruno. No answer at the time of this publication.

The carioca, singer and songwriter in the Catholic world for 20 years, emphasizes that “nothing changes, the message of the songs does not change, what changes is the external perception: one publicly LGBT artists on stage it might bother people.”
Bruno says he’s “never spoken much about these issues,” but that he’s decided to come out and position himself as one gay man for the thought that “it was a quieter time to do this”. “I’ve already built a job that people respect, they already know me,” he adds.
I talked about it a lot on my last record. My songs speak of love, mercy, acceptance, hypocrisy in the church. In the political and social times we live in, I thought it was not only the right moment, but also important to talk about it.
“I’m sad it’s going to be a war”
Despite anger at the show’s cancellation, including for the consolidated Fortaleza audience, Bruno says he’s sad “for the popular uprising‘ against the Catholic community sponsoring the event, Shalom, which has ‘always welcomed him’ in recent years.
“I am sad that this is turning into a war. I just wanted to be able to sing my songs to people,” explains the singer, emphasizing that “there are several people LGBT in churcheswho are there because they want to be welcome and want to know more about God”.
It is up to the churches first and foremost to welcome love, to pass it on, to make LGBT people feel loved, respected and welcome. All churches have their sacraments, it is important to respect them. But even more important is to make people feel that this is their home.
This Thursday (30th), the Father Julio Lancelotti talked about the case. “Solidarity with singer Bruno Camurati, whose performance at a Catholic festival was canceled because he revealed he is gay. Not all Catholic groups listened to Francis’ words: The church has a place for everyone“.
Also this week, in a homily at the Vatican, Pope Francis emphasized that the Catholic Church must be a place of welcome and not of exclusion.
There is room for everyone in the church. All. And often we become an opendoor church, but in order to release people, we condemn them. This is not the time to say goodbye, but the time to welcome.
Video of the message was shared by Bruno on social media. “I wanted to pay special attention to those who are telling them to stop playing my songs, making concerts uninviting and canceling events. I will not conform. I will keep singing‘ the singer condemned.
