Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad return in Better Call Saul’s final season

Better Call Saul’s co-creator Peter Gould has officially confirmed that Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will reprise their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in the spin-off’s final season.

As Variety reported, Gould announced the news at PaleyFestLA’s Better Call Saul panel, but otherwise shared little about how they’ll return.

“I don’t want to spoil anything for the audience, but I’ll say the first question we had when we started the show was, ‘Are we going to see Walt and Jesse on the show?’ Instead of dodging, I just say yes,” Gould said. “How or the circumstances or something, that’s something you’ll just have to find out for yourself, but I have to say that’s one of a lot of things I think you’re going to discover this season.”

Bob Odenkirk, the actor who plays the Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman titular, tried to tease more by saying, “If you can believe it, there’s more.” Unfortunately for those who can’t wait any longer, he interrupted Gould him before he could reveal too much.

However, Odenkirk said the two shows are even more “intertwined” in this final season and fans will most likely want to watch Breaking Bad again once Better Call Saul wraps up.

“I personally feel like the final season will tie the two shows – ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ – together more than ever,” Odenkirk said. “And I think that’s surprising and cool, and it’ll make you want to watch ‘Breaking Bad’ again.”

Vince Gilligan, co-creator of Better Call Saul and creator of Breaking Bad, also confirmed the news, saying it would be a “damn shame” if those two characters didn’t make an appearance.

“These two worlds intersect in a way you’ve never seen before, that’s for sure,” Gilligan said. “It would be a damn shame if the show ended without it [Cranston and Paul] appear, don’t they?”

Better Call Saul has featured many characters from Breaking Bad, including Hector Salamanca, Don Eladio, the Salamanca Twins, Hank Schrader, Steven Gomez, Gus Fring, and Mike Ehrmantraut. While not everyone made it to the end of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul is a prequel story and allowed fan favorites to get more screen time.

The sixth and final season of Better Call Saul premieres on April 18th and concludes in the second part of the season, which begins July 11th.

In our review of the first two episodes of the final season of Better Call Saul, we said that she “picks up right where she left off as Saul Goodman’s origin story continues to build and the stakes for everyone around him just get worse.”
