Bryce Dallas Howard Made “So Much Less” Than Chris Pratt for Jurassic World Movies, Actress Says

It’s no new revelation that Bryce Dallas Howard earned less than her male co-star Chris Pratt for the Jurassic World films, one of many examples of high-profile Hollywood gender pay gaps.

In 2018, Variety reported that Howard earned $8 million for the 2018 sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, while Pratt received $10 million, though the two shared equal billing and screen time. However, in a new interview with Insider, the 41-year-old actress and director Howard says the disparity between their pay was actually much bigger.

“The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less,” Howard told the publication. “When I first started negotiating for ‘Jurassic’ it was 2014 and it was a different world and I was at a huge disadvantage.

Howard gave Pratt props for helping her fight for pay equity when it came to other sources of income related to Jurassic, like theme park rides and video games.

“What I want to say is that Chris and I talked about it, and whenever there was an opportunity to move the needle over things that weren’t already negotiated, like a game or a ride, he literally said to me, ‘ You guys put it on I don’t even have to do anything. I’ll do all the negotiations. We’ll get paid right away and you don’t have to think about it, Bryce,'” Howard said.

“And I love him so much for it. I really do because I’ve been paid more for things like this than I’ve ever been paid for the film.”

Howard and Pratt’s Jurassic trilogy, which kicked off with Jurassic World in 2015 and ended with Jurassic World: Dominion in June, has grossed more than $1.4 billion in the US and $3.8 billion worldwide.

As Insider notes, gender pay gap issues have become increasingly public in Hollywood in recent years, with Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy) and Michelle Williams (All the Money in the World) openly speaking out about earning dramatically less than their males Colleagues.

In fact, the pay disparity was so common that it qualified as a news story when it was revealed that Scarlett Johansson was earning the same as her male co-stars for the Avengers films.
