BTS loses blue tick but doesn’t give Elon Musk $8 – Business Insider

K-pop supergroup BTS failed to pay the $8 subscription fee to restore their blue tick on Twitter, making them one of the biggest figures in pop culture to shun Elon Musk’s payment plan.

The seven-piece boy band lost the blue tick on theirs personal account on April 20 and joined thousands of other celebrities in the unconfirmed wilderness of Musk’s Twitter. With more than 48.3 million followers on Twitter, the band has one of the most followed celebrity accounts on the platform.

The band is different officially account and that of its administrative office, hypeboth of whom are identified as subscribers to Twitter Blue.

Musk on Thursday tweeted that he personally funds some celebrities’ Twitter Blue status — but hasn’t specifically said whose subscriptions he’s paying for. It’s unclear who pays for the Twitter Blue subscriptions on the official Hybe and BTS accounts.

BTS representatives at Hybe did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment. The Twitter press team responded to Insider’s request for comment with a standardized, automated message.

Other K-pop groups have also refused to give Musk $8 for Twitter Blue. Black pink, the four-piece powerhouse girl group under YG Entertainment and Twicea girl group under JYP Entertainment, both had no blue ticks on their personal accounts at press time.

The same goes for some of South Korea’s biggest names. Actor Park Bo Gum, a staple at Celine’s high fashion events and the rapper G dragonthe one-time muse of the late Karl Lagerfeld and the leader of the 2010s mega boy band BIGBANG, both don’t have blue ticks on their Twitter accounts.

In the west, some big musicians seem to be subscribers to Twitter Blue. At the time of going to press, Taylor Swift, rihannaAnd Miley Cyrus, the weekendAnd Shawn Mendes were all identified as subscribers to Twitter Blue.
