The Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces welcomed this operation, which, in his opinion, significantly weakens the armed terrorist groups in western Burkina Faso. It was “carefully” prepared and carried out based on very specific information, explains the same source.
According to the army, the 7th Rapid Intervention Battalion conducted a raid against several terrorist markers in the provinces of Kénédougou, Houet and the Cascades region. This operation allowed the “cleaning” of several places such as Ouangolodougou, Konkala, Bolibana and Diarakorosso, all located in the western part of the country.
“The total number of different actions shows that more than 65 terrorists have been neutralized,” specifies the Burkinabe army. Large quantities of weapons, ammunition, food, vehicles and communications were also confiscated.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, this operation made it possible to carry out several actions in favor of the population victimized by these armed terrorist groups. In certain places, populations were relocated and electricity and telephone networks were restored.
Also note that a police officer and four homeland defense volunteers died on Friday, September 1, after fighting against armed groups in the town of Silmiougou, in the Center-North region. After the attack by armed men on the volunteer base in this town, the state police intervention units and volunteers came to reinforce the situation. According to the army, around ten terrorists were neutralized.
