The Ponte della Libertà (Bridge of Freedom), which connects Venice to the mainland, was closed on Friday after a bus caught fire along the way.
The engine reportedly caught fire. Tall columns of smoke could be seen from Venice.
Venice. Several firefighting units arrived on the bus to put out the flames. Traffic on the bridge was completely blocked in both directions. All passengers managed to save themselves in time and reached the center of Venice on foot.
Closed due to acute risk of explosion
A long traffic jam formed on the bridge. Police also blocked pedestrian access to the bridge due to the acute danger of an explosion.
