Ethné is originally from Trinidad and came to Montreal with her family at the age of 13. From a young age, she was known for her unique style and short hair. “What a liberation!” Long hair took forever for me! “, she says. She was revealed by journalist Iona Monahan of the daily newspaper The Gazette and became a star model in the 1980s. She appeared in all the fashion shows in Montreal and led an international career. 30 years ago, Ethné and her husband Philippe founded de Vienne the company Épices de Cru, which takes us on a journey through spices from all over the world.

When I was younger, I learned to take my place as a black model. I delivered the goods, so yes, they took me! Lily Simon, who had boutiques in Montreal at the time, told me: “Put on this dress, it won't sell, but if you wear it, it will sell!” It was a compliment! We sold dreams, beauty and intelligence!

She was director of Clin d'œil, program director of Canal Vie and a television and radio presenter. She has become a successful author and her latest novel, Secret Gardens Filled with Nettles, is being adapted for television.

I don't regret this career as a model. I met many wonderful people, photographers and models. The camaraderie was great, but today I'm doing what I've always wanted to do: writing. There's a peace when you get older, you have to embrace your age, what's it like pretending you're younger? I enjoy getting older more than I did when I was younger!

At 16 she was a cover girl, after that she appeared in numerous commercials, then she starred in the series Scoop and flew to France to continue her career. She will return to play Valérie Nantel in Lance et Compte. She is also a presenter and columnist, we currently see her in the series 5e Rank and she is the Lancôme ambassador for Quebec.

During a trip to Japan, she got the famous dragon tattoo on her shaved head. Eve Salvail had a brilliant international career in 1992 when Jean Paul Gaultier discovered her and she became one of the star models of the time. We even see them in the films Ready-to-wear, The Fifth Element and Zoolander. She later confessed that this period of her life was very difficult and that she abused drugs. “It was a time when I was completely drugged, one drug per parade, depending on the time and type of show. I reached a point of no return, where I had to stop. It was eight years ago and it changed my life,” she says. Eve Salvail, who takes part in the fourth season of the show Big Brother Celebrities, is still a model. She is also a DJ Evalicious and an addiction counselor.

When I returned to Paris in 2023 for a photo shoot, I said to myself: “30 years later it will be different”… but not at all! I waited almost nine hours for a photo session that took place at 3am! At 19 it's okay, but at 52 I'm no longer tempted to wait in a corner. I forgot that we models are not treated well. You are not offered a chair, not even a glass of water, nothing at all!
