(Sportcom) – Caeli McKay was back in action at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday. The 24-year-old diver competed in the 10m synchro competition alongside Kate Miller of Ontario.
If the Chinese Yuxi Chen and Hongchan Quan, gold medalists thanks to their 362.22 points, and the North Koreans Mi Rae Kim and Jin Mi Jo (320.70 points) in second left no doubt about their place on the podium, then the fight left no doubt Fighting for the bronze medal was tough.
With one jump to go, Ukraine, Great Britain, Spain and Canada were in the running for third place on the podium. Britain's Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini Sirieix scored 74.88 points on their final jump to secure bronze.
For their part, Miller and McKay took sixth place, an extremely important result for the duo, which also secured their place at the Paris Olympics in the 10m synchronized event.
“We are really happy, it was a great challenge today (Tuesday). Getting this location for the Olympics is a huge achievement. “We will work hard when we get home and can now focus on Paris,” Caeli Mckay said moments after the competition ended.
The Alberta native competed in her first Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, finishing fourth in the 10m synchronized event with Meaghan Benfeito.
Cédric Fofana had previously finished 34th in the preliminary round on the 3m springboard. A result that wasn't enough to secure a ticket to the semi-finals.
Mia Vallée and Pamela Ware will be in action in Doha on Wednesday when they compete in the 3m synchronized final.
