Caetano Veloso pays tribute to Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira in a show in Brasília

At one point during his show in Brasília this Saturday the 18th, Caetano Veloso received a folded flag from his team. When the music stopped and the audience applauded the Bahian and his band, he unrolled the fabric and showed the audience the faces of British journalist Dom Phillips and Brazilian indigenous activist Bruno Pereira. The audience stood and increased their applause.

The couple were murdered in the Vale do Javari region of the Amazon after disappearing on June 5 while returning by boat to the municipality of Atalaia do Norte. Their bodies were found three kilometers away in the forest.

As the public continued to applaud and protest against President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Caetano held up the flag and asked “why was the investigation dropped?”.

The presentation took place at the Ulysses Guimarães Auditorium in the federal capital and is part of the tour that bears the name of his latest album “Meu Coco”.

The tour started in Belo Horizonte in April and has already passed through capital cities such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. For example, concerts in Curitiba, Fortaleza, Goiânia and Porto Alegre are planned until December. Caetano still returns to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília for new presentations.

Since the tour began, calls against Bolsonaro have been heard at shows, with the artist’s backing. In the capital of Minas Gerais, after choruses of “outside, Bolsonaro”, Caetano replied that “without a doubt”. In São Paulo he spoke softly himself: “Bolsonaro out”.

In addition to “Enzo Gabriel”, “Anjos Tronchos” and “Não Vou Além”, the set list includes, for example, presentations of tracks from “Meu Coco”, such as the one that gives the album title. But Caetano also performs classics like “Sampa”, “Leãozinho”, “Baby”, “Menino do Rio”, “Lua de São Jorge”.

The next performances will take place from Friday (24th) to Sunday (26th) in São Paulo.
