Caitlyn Jenner’s mother Esther Jenner passed away on Thursday. She was 96.
“I am heartbroken to announce that my mother passed away peacefully yesterday morning,” Caitlyn commented on an Instagram post on Friday.
“Losing a mother is unique in the sense that she’s the only person who has loved me my entire life,” the 73-year-old Olympian continued.
“I will miss her very much. She was a few weeks short of 97 and living a full life. Love you mom.”
The heartfelt post included a throwback photo of Caitlyn, Esther and an unidentified woman celebrating the late matriarch’s 95th birthday as they clustered around numerical balloons.

Two other photos in the carousel post showed Esther’s warm smile as she sat at a dining table.
People flooded the comments section with messages of condolences, including Real Housewives of New Jersey alum Siggy Flicker, who wrote, “So very sorry for your loss. May your mom rest in peace 🙏.”
Erin Elmore, who attended season 3 of The Apprentice, reiterated, “I’m sorry for your loss.”

Esther, who appeared in Keeping Up With the Kardashians and I Am Cait, suffered a series of health setbacks in her final years, including fracturing both hips in a fall in 2015 when she was 89.
“I’m visiting my mum and she’s doing great after breaking both her hips. She was mobile — she’s tough,” Caitlyn commented on an Instagram post at the time.

Esther was a supporter of Caitlyn’s move earlier this year and told Radar Online how proud she was of the former decathlete.

“I’ve never been so proud of Bruce as he is, himself as a father, as an Olympian, a wonderful public speaker,” Esther said, using Caitlyn’s dead name and earlier pronouns. “He arouses enthusiasm in people. He is gifted.
“I’m prouder of him now than when he stood on that podium and put the gold medal around his neck. He deserves all respect.”
Esther had four children with her husband William Jenner before his death in 2000: Caitlyn, Pam Mettler, Lisa Jenner and Burt Jenner, the latter of whom died in a car accident in 1976.
