Brasilia, 13 June (RHC) The parliamentary commission of inquiry into the January 8 coup attempts in Brasilia on Tuesday approved the call for allies by former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
In this sense, he mentioned Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former commander of Bolsonaro, and Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice and former Minister of Public Security of the Federal District.
However, the board decided not to call General Marco Edson Gonçalves Días, former minister of the Presidency’s Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI), and Ricardo Cappelli, the executive secretary of that body, for the time being.
Those summoned are obliged to provide information. However, respondents have the right to refuse to participate. A date has not yet been set for the hearings with Cid and Torres.
Other names associated with the former president were also approved by the Legislative College, such as General Walter Souza Braga Netto, former defense minister and former vice presidential candidate, and Augusto Heleno, former GSI prime minister.
In addition, Bolsonaro is the subject of a subpoena request, which, by agreement, was not mentioned at this first meeting of the group.
The only name linked to the current government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva invited to speak before the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) is Flávio Dino, Minister of Justice and Public Security.
The requirements, approved this Tuesday, provide for the reports sent by Brazilian intelligence to federal agencies on the risks of the January 8 demonstration to be forwarded to the Executive Board.
The College is also requesting the transfer of internal and external files and images of the National Congress, the Federal Court of Justice (STF), the Planalto (seat of executive power) and Itamaraty (the Chancellery) palaces, and the Ministry of Justice.
Last week, the ICC, with 16 MPs and 16 titular senators, approved the work plan and has 180 days to investigate the attacks on the three powers’ headquarters.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Group can submit its findings to the Attorney General’s Office to provide evidence for the criminal trial.
Radical supporters of Bolsonaro received the order on January 8 and almost seven thousand (who appropriated the yellow color of the flag) broke in and looted the premises of the National Congress, the STF and Planalto.
The Attorney General’s Office has reported 1,390 people for various crimes, including crimes of violent overthrow of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, aggravated criminal damage, criminal association, incitement to commit crime, destruction and deterioration or uselessness of specially protected property.
