Camilla Cabello reveals why she broke up with Shawn Mendes

Camila Cabello explained why she and Shawn Mendes ended their two-year relationship.

In November 2021, the pop stars announced their breakup in a joint statement they released on their respective Instagram pages.

“Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for each other as human beings is stronger than ever,” their posts read.

Now, during an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Cabello has shed some light on the reasons why they broke up.

“As I get older, priorities change,” she said, adding, “And I feel like that was the case for both of us.

“We both started so early. It’s like we’re really learning to be healthy adults.”

The Cinderella singer and actress went on to say that her “focus has changed throughout her life.”

“I love Sean and feel that there is literally nothing for him but love. I’m finally in a place where I feel like I’ve had an experience – I’m in therapy, I’ve done a great job. My focus has shifted a lot.”

Mendez, 23, and Cabello, 24, started dating in July 2019, shortly after they released their hit “Señorita” in June.

Romance rumors began after they collaborated on the 2015 single “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

Previously, Mendes admitted that he did not know for a long time that he was in love with Cabello.

In an interview with James Corden last year, Mendes reacted to a 2015 clip in which he denied they were dating.

“At the end of the day, we are just friends,” the singer said at the time.

Discussing the clip, Mendez told Corden, “I couldn’t even get over the fact that I was completely in love with her for another three years after that point, but it’s so obvious in my face.”

In their breakup posts, Mendes and Cabello told fans that they “started their relationship as best friends” and “will continue to be best friends.”
