Queen Consort Camilla is reportedly getting a title change that appears to go against the wishes of her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II.
The title change is likely to occur after the coronation of King Charles III. take place in May, the Chron reported on Saturday, citing unnamed sources.
The former Camilla Parker-Bowles has been married to King Charles since 2005 and was known as the Duchess of Cornwall until the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.
When Charles ascended the throne, she became Queen Consort.
The recent title change goes against the dictates of the late Queen, who outlined her wishes for Camilla in a February 2022 letter.
“And when the time comes, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you gave me. and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as the Queen Consort while she continues her own faithful ministry,” the Queen wrote.

The statement seemed to settle the question of how Camilla would be addressed.
A signal of imminent change came last week when Camilla’s charity was renamed the ‘Queen’s Reading Room’ rather than the ‘Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room’.
“There is a perception in the Palace that Queen Consort is awkward and it may be easier for Camilla to be known simply as Queen when the time comes,” a source told the Chron.
Charles and Camilla will be crowned together at Westminster Abbey on May 6th. Camilla’s grandchildren from her first marriage, who have been kept away from the limelight, are expected to play a role in the ceremony.
