Curious and mysterious birds, owls belong to the order Strigiformes, which includes about 200 different species. They are found almost everywhere in the world except Antarctica.
Their habitats are forests, swamps and deserts, but they can also be found in urban areas. Owls possess large eyes and the ability to rotate their necks almost 270 degrees. They are nocturnal hunters and have the ability to easily spot rodents and other prey.
Its plumage consists of fluffy feathers that allow it to fly silently. Over the years they have been associated with various traditions. Some of them associate the bird with bad luck or impending death.
Others portray the owl as having the ability to see the obvious and bring revelations about a person’s inner being. With so many legends and stories surrounding these birds, it’s easy to see how they have captivated generations.
