As police announced on Thursday, November 9th, Jewish religious schools in Montreal, Canada, were targeted during the night of Wednesday and Thursday. No injuries were reported. Bullet holes were found on the doors of two schools on Thursday morning. According to the authorities, they were shot in the middle of the night when the bars were empty.
“I want to be very clear. We condemn this anti-Semitic violence in the strongest terms,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reacted after speaking of a “frightening” rise in anti-Semitism and Islamophobia against the backdrop of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Quebec Premier François Legault called for “an appeal for calm to all Quebecers” and condemned that act as well as a violent confrontation that took place Wednesday at a Montreal university where two student groups claimed to be pro-Israel and pro-Israel to be. There were clashes between Palestinians.
Earlier this week, Montreal police announced they had opened an investigation after a synagogue in the Quebec metropolis was attacked with Molotov cocktails. These actions are part of a resurgence in anti-Semitic acts, particularly in Europe, since the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7 and the war that followed.
