According to a report by an American security organization, Canada is now a “hub” for illegal trade and a kind of “haven” for criminals.

This was confirmed by the International Coalition Against Illicit Economies, a non-governmental organization based in Washington DC, in a study published last November.

According to co-authors Calvin Chrustie and David M. Luna, Canada has become “a haven for the world’s most notorious criminal groups and threat networks.”

Illegal trade is therefore booming in the country, which “increasingly serves as a hub for the production and distribution of illegal goods, an exporter of these contraband products and a haven for money laundering.”

However, the report said these activities would have an impact on Canada's political and governmental structures, as well as its security and commercial structures.

“Canadian leaders at the municipal, provincial and federal levels must recognize the magnitude of the interconnected illegal threats facing Canada today and take urgent action to combat the enormous damage being done daily by kleptocrats, criminals, terrorist networks and supporters of malicious influence is caused,” emphasized Mr. Luna.

Criminal networks and their dirty money represent billions of dollars due to the smuggling and trafficking of narcotics, opioids, weapons, people and counterfeit and illicit products, specialists recalled.
