Canadian designer Peter Nygard lured women into the bedroom suite of his Toronto headquarters, which had doors without handles, before forcing himself on several of them, prosecutors alleged.

Nygard, 82, is accused of using his wealth, assets and status to persuade four women and a minor to come to his top-floor bedroom suite under the false pretense that they were there to receive interviews or tours prosecutors said during Tuesday’s trial.

He allegedly sexually assaulted the women at various times, sometimes trapping them and intoxicating them.

“Within these walls, behind all the trappings of success and power, there is a bedroom suite with a huge bed, a stone hot tub, a bar and doors – doors without handles, doors with automatic, keypad locks controlled by Peter. “Nygard,” said Assistant Prosecutor Ana Serban during opening statements.

The disgraced fashion mogul pleaded not guilty to five counts of sexual assault and one count of forcible confinement in alleged incidents from the 1980s, 1990s and mid-2000s.

In one incident, the women’s fashion designer is accused of meeting a woman in her 20s on a flight to the Bahamas, where he courted her and invited her to his estate on the island. She declined the offer, but after later recognizing him, she called him and was invited to the headquarters in Toronto, where she was invited for an interview.

“It ends up in his bedroom suite on the top floor. She becomes uncomfortable and tries to leave. “He pulls her onto the bed, sits down with his whole body, pushes her onto her back and tries to undress her, tearing her clothes,” says Serban, describing the frightening attack.

Nygard allegedly digitally penetrated the woman and tore her shirt with his teeth. The attack only stopped after he was told over the intercom that his next appointment had arrived, the prosecutor claimed.

Another woman is said to have gone to a Rolling Stones concert with the fashion man. She was then taken to his bedroom and asked to make him a sandwich. After she made him dinner, he allegedly yelled at her because she was teasing him and not complying with his advances, the court heard, according to the CBC.

After another escape attempt failed and the designer tied her to the bed, she allegedly told him to “at least put an Af-King condom on.”

Nygard allegedly gave her $100 after the attack.

In another case, another woman is said to have asked him to wear a condom.

A 16-year-old girl, the youngest victim, was allegedly raped by Nygard in front of others. Prosecutors accused an unidentified woman of giving the teen emergency contraceptive pills after the attack.

Another alleged victim, April Telek, told CBC News in June that she was raped by Nygard after he held her captive in 1993 while she was there for a modeling job.

Police opened an investigation into Nygard in June 2020 and later referred eight cases to the Manitoba Public Prosecution Service, which did not file criminal charges against him.

The case was then referred to the Saskatchewan Justice Department for an independent review in December 2020, the outlet reported.

The owner of Nygard International is set to be extradited to the United States following the conclusion of his trial in Canada on nine additional sex crime charges.

He was arrested in Winnipeg in 2020 on charges in New York under the Extradition Act.

The Canadian is also accused of luring at least ten women to his home in the Bahamas with the promise of cash payments and lucrative modeling opportunities.

However, the women were allegedly plied with alcohol and drugs and then violently attacked, according to a complaint.

His alleged victims included a 15-year-old girl who Nygard allegedly tried to anal before raping her and asking her to defecate in his mouth before offering her money.

According to CBC, he is also facing charges of sexual assault and forcible confinement in Quebec for a crime that allegedly occurred between November 1997 and November 1998.
