Canadian drunk driving champion gets his 21st conviction

Police in Abbotsford, British Columbia, believe they have found Canada's great drunk driving champion.

66-year-old Roy Heide achieved the sad feat of being convicted of drunk driving for the 21st time in December after an accident in August 2022, police said in a press release on Friday.

On August 15, 2022, police responded to an accident involving a motorcycle owned by Roy Heide. At the scene, patrol officers determined that the motorcycle's passenger had suffered serious injuries, and the driver fled in front of several witnesses who were able to help police identify him.

Heide was twice the alcohol limit at the time of the accident.

The repeat offender, known to police, finally pleaded guilty on December 18 to driving under the influence of alcohol, even though he had no right to be behind the wheel of a vehicle.

“What is incredibly concerning about this conviction is that this is Mr. Heide's 21st drunk driving conviction, which would be the highest drunk driving conviction ever in Canadian history,” police said Abbotsford alerted.

Normally the incorrigible driver should stay off the road for a while as he was sentenced to almost five years in prison.
