Canadian Football Championship: Dates announced

CF Montreal can prepare for an increased workload next spring as the Canadian Soccer Championship begins on April 18th.

The national federation has revealed some outlines of the competition, which will feature 14 teams in 2023; Among them is Laval FC, who were champions of the First Quebec Soccer League last year.

Joining tournament winners Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC, who each finished runners-up in 2022 and earn a pass to the second round, competitors will begin their journey between April 18-20. The quarterfinals will follow from May 9th to 11th, while the semifinals are scheduled between May 23rd and 25th. The final will take place in early June.

“We look forward to welcoming three new Canadian football clubs to one of the most exciting competitions in professional sport in the country,” said Dr. Canada Soccer President Nick Bontis in a press release. With each four-round playoff, it’s an exciting battle en route to the CONCACAF Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup to crown a Canadian champion.”

As part of the Major League Soccer season, CF Montreal will play their first two games on April 15th and 22nd at the Stade Saputo against DC United and the New York Red Bulls. After a stint at Sporting Kansas City on April 29, he will play two more home games, on May 6 and 13 against Orlando City SC, then Toronto FC.

The draw for the upcoming confrontations will take place on January 31st. The other clubs in the running are Cavalry FC, Valor FC, Forge FC, York United FC, Atlético Ottawa, Pacific FC, Vancouver FC, TSS Rovers FC, Vaughan SC and HFX Wanderers FC.
