Canary Islands: Three migrants found dead off the coast

Three migrants were found dead in a canoe off the coast of Spain's Canary Islands on Saturday, Spanish sea rescue said.

Three bodies were discovered by rescuers late in the afternoon 314 kilometers south of the island of El Hierro, a sea rescue spokesman told AFP.

On the same boat, fifteen survivors were rescued by helicopter and transported to the island of El Hierro, some of whom were starving or hypothermic, he added without further explanation. Details.

The Canary Islands archipelago, off the coast of northwest Africa, is facing its worst migration crisis since 2006 this year and is on one of the world's most dangerous sea migration routes. In recent months there has been a spectacular increase in the arrival of illegal immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa.
