After just one season 1899 was canceled by Netflix. series creator, Jantje Friese and baran bo odar shared a statement on Instagram announcing the end of production and thanking the fans for their support check it out:
“It is with a heavy heart that we must say that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have liked to have ended this incredible journey in seasons two and three, like Dark did. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. Is life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this adventure. We love you, never forget it”
Launched in 2022, it sparked controversy in 1899 when it was accused of plagiarizing the Brazilian comic artist’s work Mary Cagnin at HQ Black Silence. As the author points out, the series repeats several visual and creative elements of the comic, which is available for free on the Internet. However, Odar and Friese denied the allegations.
