Cancellations and delays at VIA Rail: Transport Minister denounces an ‘unacceptable’ situation

Because of the winter storm, many trains were canceled or delayed by more than 18 hours, to the great dissatisfaction of users and the Minister of Transport.

VIA Rail has had to cancel all Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal trains scheduled for December 25 due to the derailment of a Canadian National (CN) train.

“Due to the derailment of a CN train this morning, VIA Rail is forced to cancel all Toronto-Ottawa and Toronto-Montreal trains scheduled for December 25,” the railroad tweeted.

Since Friday, several passengers who have preferred the train for their Christmas trips have been stranded in VIA Rail devices, sometimes for 18 hours, due to the storm that has hit several provinces.
