Canelo Alvarez remains champion

Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez still dominates the super middleweight (168 pounds) category.

He defeated the American Jermell Charlo on Saturday evening in Las Vegas and remained the undisputed champion of this category.

The fight went to a decision, but Alvarez largely dominated as the judges handed out cards reading 119-108, 118-109 and 118-109.

At the age of 33, Alvarez won his 60th career win and also has two defeats and two draws.

The Mexican currently holds four belts (IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO) at super middleweight.

Clearly

We can say that Charlo bravely faced Canelo. The American is the IBF, WBA and WBC super middleweight (154 pounds) world champion, two categories behind Alvarez.

“I’m still strong. Nobody can beat this Canelo,” he said in the middle of the ring.

Although he only conceded two inches to his opponent, Alvarez took control of the fight from the opening bell, pinning Charlo to the body with powerful hooks and continually charging toward him.

Charlo went down on one knee in the 7th round, which left him too far gone to get back into the standings.

“I don’t need a knockout. “To show that I’m the best,” Alvarez announced, setting the date for his next fight against “everyone” for May 5, 2024.

The main contenders in this category include Christian Mbili (25-0-0) and Erik Bazinyan (30-0-0), two protégés of Montreal promoter Eye of the Tiger.
