Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B reportedly turned down her lead role as a small-time undercover con artist in Paramount Pictures’ Life with a Helper a week before filming was scheduled to begin in New York.

The reason for the sudden departure of the 29-year-old from the Bronx is that she feels “overwhelmed” by her busy schedule, an insider told Deadline on Thursday.

Tembi Banks (A Life of Love, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Work in Progress) was set to debut in a $30 million feature-length film written by This Is Us screenwriter Kay Oyegan, and they hope to regroup later in this year.

The former stripper also had a small role as Diamond in Lauren Scafaria’s 2019 crime drama The Strippers, which grossed $157.6 million at the box office and scored 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition to her challenging career, Cardi is raising two children: daughter Kultura Chiari, 3; and an unnamed six-month-old son from her four-year marriage to rapper Migos Offset.

The half-Dominican, half-Trinidadian star is also stepmother to three other children of the 30-year-old Georgia native – son Jordan, 12; daughter Cody, 6; and daughter Kalea, 6, from his relationships with Justin Watson, Oriel Jamie and Shya L’Amour.

Cardi is next scheduled to appear at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards airing April 3 on CBS, where she will compete for best rap performance for her hit Up.
