The Cardinals have responded to the news that running backs coach James Saxon was arrested in May and charged with domestic violence in Indiana.

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters at a news conference that Saxon was placed on administrative leave. Saxon faces two charges, including a felony charge in which a woman was assaulted in front of a child under the age of 16.

Saxon posted bail after the arrest and a restraining order was issued. He was also ordered to wear a GPS tracking device, but ESPN.com’s Josh Weinfuss reports that court records show it was removed this month over state objections.

Offensive Assistant Don Shumpert and Chief of Staff/Offensive Assistant Kenny Bell will take on the roles of Saxon.

UPDATE 1:38 PM ET: The Cardinals also released a statement.

“We are aware of the incident and have notified the NFL as required,” the statement said. “The matter is currently being reviewed in accordance with league guidelines. After consultation with the league office, James was placed on paid administrative leave. We will not comment further until further proceedings are pending.”
