Cargo ship ran aground in the Suez Canal

A cargo ship briefly ran aground in Egypt’s Suez Canal on Monday. However, the “M/V Glory” was released a little later with the help of three tugs, shipping service provider Leth Agencies announced late in the morning.

The incident happened when the freighter joined a southbound convoy. Maritime traffic on the canal was not affected, the head of the canal authority, Osama Rabie, told Al Arabiya TV station. The ship flies the flag of the Marshall Islands.

According to media reports, the M/V Glory is transporting corn from Ukraine to China.

According to the Greek shipping company, the “MV Glory”, built in 2015, is 225 meters long, while the channel is around 300 meters wide at this point. Already in 2021, one of the largest container ships in the world, the “Ever Given”, ran aground in the Suez Canal. The 400 meter long freighter blocked the important waterway between Asia and Europe for six days. Sometimes there were dramatic delivery failures around the world.
