Bridgetown, July 11 – The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA, acronym for English) today expressed the need to find its own tourism solutions for the region and prepare for the sector’s long-awaited sustainability.

In this spirit, CHTA President Nicola Madden-Greig called on Caribbean tourism leaders to shape their own destiny in the vital travel and tourism sector and not get carried away by the agendas of interests outside the region.

He pointed out that while overall tourism activity in the Caribbean has almost returned to pre-COVID-19 levels, some are growing by leaps and bounds while others remain in recovery mode.

This imbalance is largely due to flight diversification and insufficient marketing resources.

For the region’s tourism sector to have a full and equitable recovery, Madden-Greig said it’s important that government leaders formulate policies and strategies that encourage regular, predictable, and inter-island connectivity.

The head of the region’s largest private tourism organization pointed out that such a measure would not only encourage tourists to visit more islands, but would also help meet the needs of Caribbean residents, who come from family, business and leisure travellers travel for vacation reasons.
