Carlos III and Camilla on a state visit to France

British King Charles III. and his wife Camilla arrived in France today for a three-day state visit. The royal couple were welcomed at Paris Orly airport by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.

The King’s visit, which is mainly of a protocol nature, aims to deepen relations between the two countries, which are gradually recovering from Brexit and tensions with former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

French President Emmanuel Macron received Carlos III. and Camilla at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, British and French aviators drew the national colors of neighboring countries in the Parisian sky. The two heads of state stopped at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to pay homage to those killed in the two world wars. Macron then received Carlos III. for a face-to-face conversation at the Elisha.

Franco-British relations have recently been characterized by disputes over fishing quotas and refugees crossing the English Channel. The relationship has improved since British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took office.
