Pregnant women may be allowed to drive alone in carpool lanes on Virginia freeways.
According to the New York Post, a bill has just been introduced by an elected Republican that would allow fetuses to be recognized as passengers.
“A pregnant woman is considered two people,” the text of the law specifies.
Women must prove their condition to the state Department of Transportation to receive this privileged driver status.
Note that since the state legislature is split and the Virginia House and Senate are controlled by Republicans and Democrats, this bill has very little chance of passing.
