Carrie's tutu in “Sex in New York” sold for $52,000

The famous tutu worn by the character Carrie in the opening credits of Sex in New York was auctioned for the modest sum of $52,000.

Fun fact: The garment was found by costume designer Patricia Field at a thrift store shortly before the popular series premiered in 1998 and cost just… $5!

This tutu became an integral part of not only the history of sex in New York, but also the history of fashion. The skirt, worn by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, was estimated at $8,000 to $12,000, drawing strong reactions from those in attendance at Julien's Auctions' “Unstoppable: Signature Styles Iconic Women In Fashion” auction on Jan. 18, reports People -Magazine.

When Carrie is splashed by a bus in a scene while wearing her iconic tutu, the auctioned skirt is just one of five skirts used on the show's set. Sarah Jessica Parker has one too.
