Ayo Edebiri needed a helping hand at the 75th Emmy Awards, and her seatmate Carson Daly was happy to oblige.

Edebiri asked Daly to hold her purse and phone as she walked on stage to accept her award for best supporting actress in a comedy series for “The Bear.”

Daly appeared on Wednesday's episode of Today and revealed a little prank he pulled while Edebiri was speaking to the press backstage.

“Ayo’s phone was obviously locked, but I was able to get on camera,” Daly said. “Maybe I left her a little Easter egg. I don’t know if she’s looking at her camera.”

Daly took a selfie with his wife Siri. However, he said he had “no idea” when fans saw him.

Edebiri eventually saw the picture and sent it to Today, where it and a message from her were shared on Friday.

“Carson and Siri,” Edebiri wrote. “My voice is gone now, otherwise I would make a video, but thank you for protecting my things with your life – and more importantly, for this amazing selfie. You are the greatest and I feel like we are connected for life. Thank you forever.”

When Edebiri spoke to the press immediately after her win, she told them: “Carson Daly still has my stuff!” She added that she asked Daly for help because her parents were in the “cheap seats.”

Daly said he only realized the moment was going viral on the way home. “I was flying home at LAX… and a woman came up to me and said, 'Do you want to hold my purse?'” he recalls. “I thought, 'What are you talking about?' I thought, 'Oh, the Emmys.'”

This joke continues as others have asked him to hold their things. “If you see me on the street, please don’t give me your stuff,” he said on Today.
