The cartoonist and former director of L’Unità Sergio Staino He is in a pharmacological coma at the Torregalli Hospital in Florence. Staino, 82 years oldoriginally from Piancastagnaio in the province of Siena but residing in Scandicci it would not be in mortal danger. Staino created the character of Bobo, which was first published in Linus magazine in 1979, directed by Orest Del Buono. The cartoonist has a degree in architecture, a title that has enabled him to teach technical education in various high schools in the province of Florence. In the 1980s he collaborated with the newspapers Il Messaggero e l’Unità and then founded his own satirical weekly Tango, which became a Rai 3 program in 1987, Teletango. He becomes director of the unit in 2016, together with Andrea Romano. However, he irrevocably resigned in 2017 after the company decided in April to reduce the workforce by 60%. However, in May he was re-appointed as director and remained in office until the end of the magazine on June 2, 2017. Bobo’s character
The protagonist of the comic series reminds many of Umberto Eco, but is actually inspired by Staino himself. At the cartoons Bobo comments on national political events and international, and often refers to the country’s left. In most cases, the entire scene of the cartoon unfolds in a single strip, but there have been episodes with multiple sides, as in the case of Enrico Berlinguer’s funeral.
