After three days in chambers, the seven jurors announced their final verdict in the Depp v. Heard case: defamation. The actor won and is eligible for $15 million in compensation. Amber Heard’s staring, barely contained scream collides with the cheering crowd waiting outside the building.
At 3:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. in Italy) the jury made its first appearance: after the judge called the lawyers for both sides, he asked “the seven” to fill in the questionnaire the amount of compensation due to the victorious party.
Just over half an hour after the announcement, Amber Heard had already arrived, while Johnny Depp confirmed rumors that he was absent as he was still in England. In fact, the actor’s attorneys sat in front of the judge’s seat without their client. Judge Penney Azcarate gave the ex-spouses one hour to reach the Fairfax, Virginia courthouse.
The feeling that the decision was imminent was reinforced by the jury’s unusually short lunch break: just 45 minutes. The crowd outside the Justice Center has grown exponentially while waiting for the two protagonists of the defamation trial that began over a month ago. The majority were always supporters of the Pirates of the Caribbean protagonist, who started camping early in the morning regardless of the rain.
