Cássia Kis becomes the target of lawsuits and criminal reports in Rio after making homophobic comments

247 Groups representing the LGBTQIA+ community have taken legal action against actress and Bolsonarist activist Cássia Kis over a homophobic speech she made during a live performance, in which she said gay couples “cannot have children.” , in addition to the intention to “destroy the family”.

“The National LGBT+ Alliance has announced that it will pursue legal action against the actress following the comments. The LGBT civic group ArcoÍris, led by Claudio Nascimento, led the Rio court to file a public civil lawsuit against Cássia for the crime of homophobia,” reads the column of journalist Ancelmo Gois of O Globo.

According to the report, “ArcoÍris cites in the petition that the actress’ speeches contain ‘clearly discriminatory and biased content towards gay couples and the LGBTQIA+ community in questioning the validity of her existence.'”

ArcoÍris also submitted a criminal report detailing the actress’ homophobic remarks to the Rio Racial Crimes and Intolerance Crimes Police Station.

The group is also seeking collective compensation of BRL250,000 “for the purpose of promoting strategies and programs to combat discrimination and LGBTphobia in the artistic context”.
