The animal was found in a maneuvering area of this military base near the border.
The story reported by El Diari de Girona hardly seems believable. The discreet and heavily guarded Sant Climent military base just outside of La Jonquera was the scene of an unlikely break-in.
A chicken covered in sensors and a camera
Soldiers spotted a motionless chicken in the middle of a runway. As they approach, they find that the corn is attached and carries not only a camera but also multiple sensors. There is an uproar in the general staff, which immediately calls the Mossos d’Esquadra to the rescue.
A scientific study by the University of Girona
Arriving at the scene of the curious find, the Catalan police officers first note that the animal is lying down but alive (phew!) and that the equipment it was equipped with consists of a motion detector and, in fact, a camera aimed at it, visible to transmit or record its movements in real time. On the recording material: A label reads: “University of Girona, study of fauna”. Information confirmed by the intrusion of a biologist from the University of Catalonia on the same military site, who claimed to have the permits for his experiment.
Taken to the La Jonquera police station to have his information checked, the man said he was unaware that he was in a restricted area and that he was actually conducting a zoological survey, not on the chicken but on the Albères eagle. We imagine that the chicken should serve him as a meal under the eyes of scientists. Party postponed: the biologist and his chicken have been released.
