Cate Blanchett cut a quirky figure on Tuesday as she attended a 40th anniversary screening of “Sophie's Choice” at New York's Museum of Modern Art.

The 54-year-old Australian actress showed off her unique sense of style in a denim suit that consisted of a two-tone faded jacket with a plunging neckline and matching straight-leg pants.

She stepped it up a few more inches with pointy black heels and a very chunky, jeweled silver necklace.

Cate highlighted her features with a dewy makeup palette and was joined by Ethan Hawke as they smiled for snaps together at the event.

Ethan, 53, cut a casual figure in gray trousers and a red checked shirt, which he teamed with navy trainers and a chic navy jacket.

Cate's appearance at the screening comes after she had a busy few weeks on set for her upcoming film Father, Mother, Sister, Brother.

She was on location in the Republic of Ireland, where filming is underway for the Jim Jarmusch-directed film, which is full of secrets.

Cate most recently worked with Jim on the 2003 anthology film Coffee & Cigarettes, which also starred Steve Buscemi and Iggy Pop.

Father, Mother, Sister, Brother will be Jim's first film in five years – as the Ohio-born director revealed the project was in the works during a candid conversation at the Overlook Film Festival in April last year.

“The film that we are now preparing to shoot at the end of this year, in my opinion, will probably not have any music.” […] It's a very subtle film; It's very quiet. And I think music might move it too much in one direction – it's a funny and sad movie, right?

“The two are somehow intertwined. I don't know if I want to have music to add something else on top of it.” “It doesn't really want it yet,” he revealed.

No further information about the plot or cast has been revealed so far, but there are rumors that filming will be completed by spring 2024.

Cate began work on her latest project after completing work on Guy Maddin's ensemble comedy Rumors with Alicia Vikander.

She also recently completed filming on Borderlands, an American science fiction film based on the video game of the same name.

Despite the delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, the actress has been very busy and is also expected to appear in Alfonso Cuaron's Apple TV thriller series.

Outside of work, Cate recently sparked a row with neighbors after revealing plans to convert a field into a driveway and parking space for her £5 million (AU$9.6 million) holiday home in Cornwall.

The Hollywood star and her husband Andrew Upton have been accused of “grabbing the land” to prevent anything being built next door.

Neighbors had already accused the “Lord of the Rings” actor of damaging sensitive coastal wildlife habitat by demolishing a cottage to make way for a much larger, environmentally friendly home.

Once completed, the home will have four bedrooms, a basement pool, showers and an area for surfboards and wetsuits.
