‘It’s been a pleasure’: Cate Blanchett reveals she learned to play the piano and speak German for her new role in Tar when she stops by Good Morning America
Cate Blanchett has given her all for her latest role.
The 53-year-old star told Good Morning America on Monday that she learned to play the piano and conduct while recording German to star as acclaimed musician Lydia Tár in the new film Tár.
“It was a pleasure to do that,” Blanchett said on the morning show.

The psychodrama film centers on Cate’s stunning portrayal of a fictional character named Lydia Tár.
Lydia is a world-renowned figure in contemporary classical music, and her titanic career begins to unravel as her past catches up with her again.
She went on to share that “walking up in front of the Dresden Philharmonic” was the most intimidating part of her preparing for when the star was actually conducting the German symphony.
“You’re not going to be prepared for the sound of these big orchestral works,” Cate said. “It was phenomenal.

The interviewer then shared a clip from the film, which showed a tense exchange between Blanchett’s Lydia and her on-screen wife, played by actress Nina Hoss.
The film’s writer-director Todd Field has stated that he would not have made the film without Blanchett in the lead.

The prestigious film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month, where it received a six-minute standing ovation.
The critical acclaim has continued to grow, with many posting Blanchett’s performance as the front-runner for Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards.

The New Yorker described her performance as “gorgeous and radiant,” while The Hollywood Reporter hailed her work as “amazing,” before summing up the film as “a fascinating character study.”

In addition to her performance in Tár, which garnered critical acclaim, Cate also impressed with her wardrobe as she continues a non-stop press tour leading up to the film’s release.
Backed by superstar celebrity Elizabeth Stewart, Blanchett has recently impressed with Alexander McQueen and Giorgio Armani.
The style icon’s next role will be quite a departure from her dramatic character in Tár when she joins the mockumentary TV series Documentary Now! to fake a British barber.
Tár will be in select theaters on Friday and opens nationwide on October 28.
