Caught by the tide in the middle of fishing: Four lifeless children found on the north shore

Four children were found dead on the shoreline in Portneuf-sur-Mer on the north coast on Saturday morning. A man in his thirties would always be missed.

Around 2 a.m., the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) received a call regarding a group of missing persons. “The group was fishing at the edge of the bank when the tide caught them by surprise,” explained Catherine Bernard, spokeswoman for the SQ.

Six people were rescued in time, four children were found dead and a man in his 30s is still missing. The children have been transported to the CLSC in the area, where fears are for their lives, Sergeant Bernard said.

A team of divers and Canadian Forces personnel were called to the scene to conduct the search. SQ investigators were also dispatched to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding this event.

After the news broke, industry CAQ contributor Yves Montigny was quick to respond.

“I am devastated by the tragedy that happened in Portneuf-sur-Mer. “I am wholeheartedly with the victims’ families and the community,” he wrote on Twitter, thanking the research teams still working.
