Goaltender Cayden Primeau allowed the Montreal Canadiens to take a point away from the Philadelphia Flyers in a 3-2 shootout loss on Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
The young man who grew up in Pennsylvania had a very solid performance in his ninth game of the season. He blocked 37 of the 39 pucks sent his way and made seven saves in overtime, including a minor miracle in the final moments.
Primeau was only thwarted by Sean Couturier during the shootout, while his teammates were unable to find the net in the game's closing stages.
Nevertheless, the Habs scored the first two goals of the game. In the second minute of the game, Sean Monahan deflected a shot from Justin Barron behind the back of goalkeeper Samuel Ersson. It was his 12th goal in 18 games against the Flyers since the start of his career.
Ten minutes later, with Bleu-Blanc-Rouge's second and final shot in this opening period, David Savard doubled the visitors' lead.
Owen Tippett cut the lead in half before the end of the period and Morgan Frost used a power play to equalize in the second period.
With this success, defender Jamie Drysdale scored his first point in a Flyers jersey. It was his first game with his new team, which he acquired Monday as part of the trade that sent Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks.
In front of the crowd favorite's net, Ersson was only called upon 19 times.
The Habs will return to action this Thursday with a visit to the San Jose Sharks at the Bell Center.
