A violent hailstorm in Spain causes the Death of a 1 year old girl (20 months to be exact) hit by a huge hailstone. The tragedy happened in the Catalan city The Bisbal d’Empordà.
Local administrative sources reported what happened to Iberian media such as Catalan public television and the “Efe” agency.
What happened
The tragedy happened on the evening of Tuesday, August 30. The 20-month-old girl was struck in the head by a large hailstone. Transported to the hospital in a serious condition, the little girl unfortunately died during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

The violent hailstorm in Spain
The strong hailstorm on Tuesday surprised the residents of La Bisbal d’Empordà and other places in the province of Girona, as the newspaper “La Vanguardia” also explained. Some hailstones that fell on the ground measured 10 centimeters in diameter, according to an image released by the Catalan Weather Agency (Meteocat). Meteocat itself declared that Tuesday saw the “maximum hail diameter in the country” since 2002.
The number of injured
The violent wave of storms that hit Spain on Tuesday injured at least 30 people, who required medical treatment, according to the death toll reported by SkyTg24. Some of the injured suffered bruises or even fractures.
The fire service said it had responded to numerous reports of damage to buildings and electrical equipment caused by the hailstorm. The storm damaged roofs, shattered the windows of cars and shops, and also caused tree branches to fall.
The most tragic news, however, is the death of the 20-month-old girl, who was hit by a huge hailstone in the Catalan town of La Bisbal d’Empordà.
